This has absolutely no relevance towards the review of the book but, can I hear a little commotion for the cover? I mean… this is absolutely STUNNING. So, getting back on track, Frozen Hearts and Death Magic is book 1 of the Duology Of Fire and Fae. This book has several POV’s and one of them is from Naia’s. She has been raised in the shadow of her twin brother, who is expected to inherit their kingdom’s crown. But she has dreams of her own. One night she is awakened and wanders off to the woods where she finds a fae dying, which are thought to be dangerous creatures. She takes the fae inside her room and when he wakes up, Naia cannot take her eyes off of him. They end up kissing, and he disappears.
A year later, Leah, the necromancer princess, is bound to find a husband during the gathering that is to take place in her kingdom. This will be a time in which rulers from all over Aluria meet. Her family was adamant that she is to obtain a husband before the meeting ends, but Naia’s brother is not a choice. But, he is “the one who makes her heart beat faster”.
“Meanwhile, war looms over the land. One of the kingdoms is amassing immense power. The White Fae might be returning. Amidst it all, Naia and her brother struggle with newfound magical powers, family secrets, and most of all, their own treacherous hearts”.
Before giving my opinion, I do want to state several things. As described by the author this book is recommended for readers 16 and up. Besides, there are some themes in the novel that some readers might find distressing. So, trigger warnings: physical and verbal abuse, and rape attempt.

I really liked this book and I fell completely in love with the characters. Besides, I thought the female characters were incredibly interesting and such badasses. So, the story flowed really nicely, and it did have a lot of mysteries that kept me captivated by the story but not so overwhelmingly that they felt too much. The pace and rhythm was PER-FECT and the author’s writing was really gripping.
I am a little bit torn by Naia. I really liked her personality and her dreams. She is extremely kind which sometimes gets read as naive, but incredibly strong as well. Her relationship with River is so intense… I love these two so much, and I can really see the author’s inspiration on telenovelas – which, again, I love. However, I hated that she let herself be so submissive to him that she forgot her dreams and expectations. And this also drifted her away from her true objective and the reason why she decided to make a deal with him. However, the slow burn between these two got me glued to the book since the first moment they met.
Leah might be my favourite character in the whole novel. She is such a strong and kind woman, and my heart breaks for everything that she went through. First of all, Leah is a force to be reckoned with but I cannot wait to read about her believing this and realising how much power she really has. She has such strength that I have no doubt that she will be an incredible queen and will make justice. Besides, I love Leah and Fel’s (Naia’s twin brother) romance. It felt so “pure” and fresh, and I loved to see their love from their point of view as much as from others.
I have really high hopes for the next book and I truly cannot wait to read the next one… because DAMN that cliffhanger… River’s visions were such a good plot twist. Besides, I am so invested in Naia and Fel’s blood family, and how much her powers can develop now that she has a hint of where she comes from. So, if you love a slow-burn romance, court intrigues, and fantasy, this is the book for you.
