To final up this top three picks of 2022 debuts, I bring you Only a Monster by Vanessa Len. This book is described to have “the sweeping romance of Passenger and the dark fantasy edge of This Savage Song“. Moreover, this is set to be the first installment of a contemporary fantasy trilogy.
Sixteen-year-old Joan is sent with her late mother’s eccentric family in London. However, she will soon find out that her family isn’t just that, the truth is that they are monsters. “As she battles Nick [a legendary monster slayer], Joan is forced to work with the beautiful and ruthless Aaron Oliver, heir to a monster family that hates her own”.
I honestly cannot wait for the publication of this book on February the 22nd. I think it will have very nice turns and plot twists. Moreover, I love MC* who are not plain, and I do like to see them as dark and evil characters. After all, “in this story… she is not the hero”.
