A Soul of Ash and Blood by Jennifer L. Armentrout
I really love JLA’s and this one didn’t disappoint AT ALL. A Soul of Ash and Blood reminded me why I love From Blood and Ash so much.

This books follows right after we left off after The War of Two Queens, the Gods and Goddesses are awakening but then Poppy falls into stasis to complete the Culling. “Cas is given some advice… talk to her” so she remembers who she is once she wakes up. “And so, he does. He reminds Poppy how their journey began, revealing things about himself that only Kieran knows in the process”.
This book felt cosy and heart-warming and it felt great to read From Blood and Ash from Casteel’s perspective. One of my favourite scenes was when Hawke finds Poppy perched on the window ledge holding Willa’s book. It lit made me snort out loud, and I love Hawke’s snarky comments and how he pokes Poppy.
I’m usually quite skeptical about using flashbacks or changing the times from the story, but I loved JLA’s way of describing the scenes and how she jumps from the present to the past. Everything was very easy to follow and it felt quite right for the story.
I’m still unsure as to how I feel about the Joining and how this has changed the relationship between Kieran, Poppy and Casteel, but I loved to see more about the boys and their own relationship.
Overall, I loved the book to bits and I cannot wait for what awaits us in the future of the From Blood and Ash series. And particularly Poppy’s future since she has become one of my favourite female characters of all time.
