Second Star to the Left by Megan Van Dyke
I would like to start by thanking Megan for giving me the chance of being part of her Street Team, I’ve been enjoying it a LOT. On the other hand, I was given an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review. So, without further ado…

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ /5
Second Star to the Left is the first installment in her Reimagined Fairy Tales Collection. In this book, Tinker Bell has been banished from “her homeland for doing the unthinkable, selling the hottest drug in Neverland – pixie dust”. To get back home, she’ll need the help of the mermaid Queen, who wants a certain jewel held by the infamous Captain Hook. After meeting with the pirate, Tink might have put a curse that turns the seas against him so, “he tracks down the little minx and demands she removes the curse”. However, she can’t.
The mermaid queen offers both of them a way out but they must retrieve a magical item for her. So, Hook and Tink are forced to work together and they venture into the seas without trusting each other.
SPOILERS AHEAD, BEWARE!
I found this book AMAZING. I was dealing with a reader’s slump and this totally fixed it. It is the perfect mix between action, romance and spice. Besides, I believe that working with a retelling is quite challenging because it is difficult to make it surprising for the readers. However, I loved that I somewhat knew the characters and discovered new features added by Megan.
At first, I was a bit skeptical because I’m not used to reading standalone but this book was everything I could have ever hoped for. I adored how much you got to know the characters. It is not a linear book, characters have their own arcs and the plot is interesting and complex. Besides, there were several issues that needed solving beyond the main point, but everything is perfectly intertwined and balanced.
It was very interesting to see how Hook and Tink were forced to work together and become closer and closer by the page. I found their relationship very organic and the trust was built on page so the reader got to enjoy that before shipping them romantically.
Finally, that plot twist about Lily’s identity?! I totally didn’t see this one coming. So, I would definitely read a sequel in which we find out more about her and the Lost Boys, and obviously Hook and Tink.
Megan has become one of the greatest findings this year and I can’t wait to read what else she has in store!
