One For All
Having seen a group of authors tweet about their upcoming books under the hashtag #22Debuts on Twitter has pushed me to write an entry about the books I’m most excited about coming out in 2022. So, just in time for Christmas, I will be sharing the books I have yet to read but I can’t wait to get my hands on.
The first book is One For All by author Lillie Lainoff. This is described as “an OwnVoices, gender-bent retelling of The Three Musketeers, in which a girl with a chronic illness, trains as a Musketeer and uncovers secrets, sisterhood, and self-love”.
This book’s release date is spot on since it’s on the same day as International Women’s Day. I cannot wait to meet Tania, the protagonist of this book. This character is described as someone who wants to be strong and independent, and she knows goddamn well how to handle a sword; so what else could we want? After the murder of her dad, she pushes herself to finish school at L’Académie des Mariées – as it was her dad’s last wish; but not everything is what it seems.
I am very excited about this book and to read Lainoff for the first time and see what her take on this classic tale turns out. I have always been obsessed over the musketeers but was extremely frustrated for the obvious lack of women. I literally couldn’t get over the film The Lady Musketeer (2004), in which D’Artagnan’s daughter tries to make her way into the brotherhood. I should probably rewatch it before recommending it, but I remember it was the first time I ever saw a woman in this setting leading the way. So, I definitely cannot wait to read about Tania’s journey.
I am really excited and happy that Lainoff’s book is coming out, as she describes it’s the first to include a MC* with PoTS** and be published by one of the biggest publishers. Besides, I was really happy to hear that the audiobook is going to be narrated by someone with POTS, Mara Wilson.
