As always, I will give a mini spoiler-free review of this book. I LOVED it. I was in a very bad reading slump and I absolutely ate this book. It has everything you could wish for, it has the political intrigue, angsty romance plot, a little bit of found-family trope, what else could you wish for? This is definitely a book I would recommend fans of The Cruel Prince but also The Hunger Games if that makes any sense.
I loved Saoirse, she´s strong and stubborn and very decisive. I particularly enjoyed her relationship with her sister Rain, and how protective she feels towards her. It feels so good to read a FMC so devoted to her family, and it proves yet again the strong bonds people can make even without sharing any blood.
I have never read any YA books about mermaids or sirens and I absolutely adored them, so this book was an excellent one at developing this theme. I usually find myself skipping descriptive paragraphs but it was the opposite with this book, I enjoyed the feeling they gave and how much it helped to understand the characters.
What can I say about his Highness, the royal prince Hayes. I adore him and his bickering personality and how much he challenged Saoirse. Their relationship grows a lot throughout the book, and although I thought it was a bit too sudden, I adored reading their scenes. And I particularly liked how he went from Prince to first-name basis.
Overall, it was a great book I´ll be recommending everyone I know. It was such a great debut and I truly cannot wait for the next book!
